Swedish Tea Ring

Klippta Kransor

This cake-bread treat could not be simpler. Basically a cinnamon roll in the shape of a ring (but don’t feel limited to sweet only because this pastry can go savory too), it is something I am excited to have learned about with Emily and will be making again. We have made it multiple times since the bake club meeting when Emily and I first tried it out - with lots of variation - and I can attest to the fact that this is a forgiving recipe. If you use ready made freezer bread dough, all you have to do is decide on the filling. Emily used her own sourdough and it was a hit with the kids but if you haven’t been making sourdough this year at home…or maybe you didn’t do a great job keeping up with it like me (oops) - this recipe calls for freezer bread dough and it works like a charm.

Fillings we have tried (and loved!) include:

  • cinnamon, sugar and chopped nuts

  • cheddar cheese and minced onions

  • salami and pizza sauce

  • raspberry jam and cream cheese

I usually make a cheddar cheese and minced onion filled roll for Christmas morning and have been making them from scratch. This is so much simpler (read - taking the dough out of the freezer to thaw overnight is all you really need to remember) and I think I will be making it this way this year!

See in the images below some tasty gooey cheese and onion filing!

Such a pretty bread and so versatile.
