Doughnut Holes

I saw that this newspaper recipe was from a contributor down in Deerfield Beach, Fla. which is practically in the same neighborhood I live in now. I thought it would be fun to cook this one up.

Outside of grinding the walnuts, this dough came together very simply. After frying the doughnuts, they most definitely resembled some kind of fried chicken nuggets, haha! But the scent was bright and nutty. They were not majorly sweet, which I think is great. They would be nice just dunked in coffee.

Just for fun, I decided to make a simple orange glaze for half of them. All you need to do is mix a little fresh orange juice into some powdered sugar to get the consistency you like, it won’t take much liquid. For the other half of the doughnuts I mixed powdered sugar with cinnamon to coat them in. This is one of my favorite doughnut flavor memories from growing up eating Dunkin Donuts Munchkins.

If frying intimidates you or you want to skip the extra fat, I would bet these would bake up just fine in a donut pan, or in a pinch, mini muffin tins!

Try these! I am sure you and your people will be very pleased.
