Cocoa-Apple Bundt Cake

The box of recipes we are calling the “plaid box” contains a surprising amount of apple related recipes. I don’t hate it.

I love apples as an addition or the star in a baking project. I love apples.

This cake is a delightfully moist spice cake. The chocolate and apple flavors are not overpowering and blend well together. We did not ice it, just as the recipe notes (‘‘this rich cake doesn’t need frosting”) and the only suggestion my teenagers had was to omit the nuts and add more chocolate chips. Do with that information what you will. We used pecans and sunflower seeds but I think I would go with finely chopped walnuts next time.

I preferred to eat it fresh or warmed up just a bit.
