Carmel Revel Brownies

When talking to my mom about recipes she was eager for us to bake from Gramma’s archives, she was quick to bring up Carmel Revel Brownies as a favorite. This is the first recipe we are bringing out of the second recipe box, The Plaid Box. We will continue to share recipes from The Paisley Box as well, but are excited to begin another set of recipes!

Carmel Revel Brownies

1 pkg (14 oz carmels) or use carmel apple dip

1/4 cup milk

1 pkg(22 oz) fudge brownie mix

1 pkg (6 oz) chocolate chips

1 cup nuts

Heat carmels in milk in top of double boiler until melted. Make brownies as directed on package. Spread half of the dough in a greased 13x9 cake pan. Sprinkle chocolate chips and nuts on the dough. Drizzle carmel mixture evenly over nuts. Top with remaining half of brownie dough. Bake 30 to 35 min in 350 oven. Cut while warm.

Last October, my mom and I had the awesome opportunity to meet up and spend some time together near Sunset Beach, NC. In spite of the pandemic, we were able to work out flights from Oregon and Florida to come stay at the beautiful home of my Aunt Diane, my dad’s sister. Mom and I had a really silly time making this recipe together.

These are rich and dreamy, caramel filled brownies. The base is just a brownie mix, and the filling is melted caramels and chocolate chips layered between the batter. To save the step of melting caramels, you can just use caramel dip from the store.

The hilarious part of our story was that mom accidentally bought the “pumpkin spice flavored caramel dip” instead of the classic, and let me just say, we do not recommend this flavor for this recipe. Ha! We were so excited to indulge in these brownies together, but were left with a deep desire to make it right next time.

So, please, do us a favor and make these delicious brownies, just not the pumpkin spice caramel!
